It is hard to believe that there are still many private passenger railroads operating throughout the Land of the Rising Sun. Most are small lines that are more like interurban routes. However there also many that are quite large and provide competition to the JR routes.

A Fujiku Interurban train is seen leaving Tanokura Station. The line starts at Otsuki on the JR Chuo Line and go towards the Mount Fuji Tourist area. (8/98)
