Dortmund

Stadt-Bahn

Dortmund is one of the cities that is converting their tram lines to StadtBahn. Translated it means city trains. Basically it is just a new term for "Quality" trams or light rail. Most of the former tram lines have been re-routed into subways. Driving around downtown, I found several streets with streetcar rails still in place and some with poles in place, but the wires are gone. There are still a couple of lines on the surface in downtown. However, I found a subway platform that is currently without tracks that is directly beneath a tram line. I'm sure that eventually this line will go underground as well. The subway platforms have low and high platforms to accommodate both the Stadtbahn cars and the traditional tram cars.
