Portland Streetcar

Portland again has on a unique project for this very livable city, the Portland Streetcar. This line is not like the MAX light rail line. The modern trolley cars on this line share the right of way with other vehicles much as the streetcars of yore. This first line links Portland State Univ. with the trendy NW Portland, there are talks of extending to a city wide system.

The line uses 7 cars from Skoda of the Czech republic. It also uses 2 Council Crest Replica Vintage trolleys. The line opened on July 20th 2001!

Banners always lead a parade. The parade is just starting out from the PSU Urban Studies station.	The band here is playing Czech type music to celebrate the Skoda cars.
Car # 4 leads the parade. PGE sponsored this car as well as the parade.	4 streetcars are lined up to the Park Blocks on the PSU campus.
Car rounds the curve onto 10th Ave.	Car # 5 is in the back of the parade just having crossed Market Street.
Streetcar has just crossed MAX at Yamhill (Airport signed MAX train is seen in the distance).	Streetcar waiting to proceed with an eastbound MAX train seen behind it.
