WES Commuter Rail

WES

The is a unique transit type for the Portland Metro area, Commuter Rail. The marketing name for the line is WES, for Westsider or Westside Express Service. This is an unusual commuter line as it operates suburb to suburb only.

The line start at Wilsonville to the south. It parallels I-5 until Tigard, then it parallels the very busy OR-217. The line ends at the Beaverton Transit Center. The line is on the old Oregon Electric line that is an active freight line. In Beaverton it breaks away from the old OE to head to BTC along new street trackage.

Pre-COVID the service was 30 minutes during the morning and evening rush hours only. During COVID service was reduce to every 45 minutes, and has remained since then. The line uses DMU's built by the defunct Colorado Railcar, along with RDCs
