Tohoku

The Tohoku line runs from Tokyo to Aomori pretty far north in Japan. It is the longest Shinkansen line in the system. Several other Shinkansen lines branch off of this mainline, including the Hokuriku (Nagano), Joetsu, Yamagata and Akita. Construction is underway at Aomori for the Hokkaido Shinkansen that will use the Seikan tunnel
