Edmonton Light Rail

Edmonton is often considered the birthplace of modern Light Rail in North America. Due to the cold winters of Edmonton, the downtown portion of the system was placed in a subway. To speed loading and unloading Edmonton chose high level platforms. It is relatively short system, but it is fun to ride!

A northbound train is leaving the Grandin Station by the Provincial Capitol Mall. (8/99)	University station terminal is deep underground, but soon this train will jump outside to cross the Saskatchewan River, just to plunge into darkness again for the downtown subway. (8/99)
Clareview terminal is in the northeast part of Edmonton. This section is next to a railroad right-of-way. (8/99)	This train has just dropped off passengers at this downtown station. (8/99)
