The southern terminal for the #1. Up until 2009, the South Ferry terminal was a 2 track loop. The outer loop was for 7th Ave trains. The inner loop (not used in revenue service) is for Lexington Ave trains. As this is a short and tight curve station, only the doors on the first 5 cars open at the station. Plus there are gap fillers for all the doors. In 2009 a new South Ferry Terminal opened replacing the old loop station. It is now a two track stub terminal with an island platform. The platform is long enough for a 10 car IRT train. There is also now a free transfer to the Whitehall street BMT station next door. The old South Ferry loop still exists, but is not used for revenue service anymore. Its fate is unclear.
